FAQs

What is sex therapy, and is it for me?

Sex therapy, a specialized form of psychotherapy, is designed to help individuals and couples address sexual concerns, challenges, and relationship issues that are related to sexuality. Through talk therapy, education, and practical exercises, sex therapy can help improve sexual function, intimacy, and overall well-being.

Sex therapy sessions do not involve any physical contact between the therapist and client. The focus is on open and honest communication and education.

The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) is the largest organization that certifies sexual health practitioners and provides resources about sex therapy for both professionals and the public.

What kind of relationships do you provide therapy for?

I welcome adults in various relationship configurations, including romantic partners (monogamous, non-monogamous, and polyamorous), and separated co-parents. I do not currently offer therapy for children under 18.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

I provide weekly, online therapy sessions through a secure, HIPAA-compliant Telehealth platform. In-person sessions in Northampton, MA are exclusively for Relationship Intensives.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an in-network provider for BlueCross BlueShield of Massachusetts. Due to the variability in individual plans, it is important to contact BCBS directly to confirm your specific coverage details, such as copays and deductibles. Please note that insurance will only cover one individual in couples therapy. I am happy to provide additional information during our consultation.

If you have a different insurance carrier, I can provide you with a superbill to submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. It is crucial to contact your insurance provider to verify your out-of-network benefits and whether they accept superbills for reimbursement.

Please note that Relationship Coaching and Relationship Intensives are not covered by insurance.

What are your fees?

  • $250 for weekly, 75-minute couples therapy sessions.

  • $300 per hour for weekend relationship intensives.

  • $120 per hour for consultation.

  • Get in touch to discuss your educational needs to determine pricing.

Is weekly therapy or a relationship intensive better for me and my partner?

Couples can benefit from both weekly therapy and relationship intensives.

Relationship intensives can be particularly beneficial for couples who have prior therapy experience and can handle multiple hours of therapy at a time. They can also be helpful for couples new to therapy. For example, an intensive can help stabilize a relationship following a crisis or hardship before the couple begins ongoing couples therapy. It can also help a couple transition if they have decided to end their relationship.

I encourage you to reach out for a consultation call, where we can discuss your needs and I can recommend the best option for you and your partner.

My partner is not interested in coming to therapy, do you work with individuals?

I'm currently focusing on couples therapy and not accepting individual clients at this time. I'm happy to provide referrals to individual therapists specializing in relationships.

I’m interested in working with you! What’s the next step?

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to assess whether we are a good fit, as a positive relationship with your therapist is the biggest indicator of successful therapy. Booking a consultation allows you to ask questions and ensures that you invest your time and money in ways that work best for you, without committing to services. If we determine we're not a good fit, I'll provide referrals to other providers.

Please note that a consultation call for weekly therapy is scheduled only after we've identified an available time that works for both of us.

What’s the difference between couples therapy and relationship coaching?

Relationship coaching is available for all couples residing outside of Massachusetts. It is distinct from traditional psychotherapy in that it is more directive, facilitated, and educational in nature.  Relationship coaching does not address trauma, anxiety, or depression.  Individuals within the couple must be receiving ongoing weekly individual therapy to address these types of symptoms.  While improved connections fostered through relationship coaching can have a positive impact on mental health, it is important to remember that coaching is not a substitute for therapy.

Relationship coaching is not covered by insurance, and superbills will not be provided.  During the consultation call, an assessment will be made to determine if relationship coaching is appropriate. Referrals to couples therapists in your state will be provided if it is determined that couples therapy is more suitable.  This determination may occur after our work has begun.

What do I need for online therapy sessions?

Please come to our online session with a fully charged device and a stable Wi-Fi connection in a private, quiet space. Ideally, you and your partner will attend sessions together on one device. Please refrain from multitasking, drinking, or using other substances during our session. Newborns are welcome; other children and pets are not.
